Dear Notion

January 20, 2005

Eight years ago we fell in love; I finally found a place to organize my thoughts and notes.

Your block-based approach to writing was so powerful and flexible.

Six years ago you changed the game again with Databases! Now I can structure anything, not just written thoughts.

Five years ago, I championed you into my team to organize our business from top-to-bottom.

Three years ago you released Projects and Tasks... 😬

Then you released Teamspaces... that weirdly, aren't a space for your team, more like a group of pages.

Then that calendar thing happened (let's not talk about it).

But anyway it's not you, it's us.

Now my team has grown in size and complexity, and we can't find anything in Notion because it's soo unstructured.

I'm still the only person in the team who can wrangle a Database... and nobody really knows where to put things.

It's still great for collaborating on real-time documents though.

So while it's not really you.... it's also kinda you.

We need something to run an actual business. Something that brings sales, marketing and product onto the same page.

We need something that anyone can setup and use, not just the one Notion guru in the team.

First and foremost, we need something built for running modern teams, not taking notes.

So today we say goodbye to you Notion. Sorry, but we've moved on.
